Traditionally only Dracula used Dark mode. If you want to join the undead, you'll need to fit in. Great for reducing eye-strain in dim environments.
Hey there, so you want to know more about Light and Dark mode? You've come to the right place.
The Mobile App has two brightness modes: Light mode and Dark mode. Switching between brightness modes can reduce eye strain, improve readability, and preserve battery life on your mobile device.
Light mode
Light mode is the default brightness mode for the Mobile App.
Dark mode
You can switch to Dark mode if it's better suited for your work style.
Switching brightness mode
1. Log in to the Mobile App.
2. Tap the Menu icon.
3. Tap Settings.
4. Within Experiments, toggle the Brightness mode.
Should you switch to Dark mode?
Dark mode offers some great advantages over Light mode. But of course there are some disadvantages, too.
Advantages of Dark mode
Improved battery life Dark mode apps can prolong the battery life of your smartphone, allowing you to use the app for longer periods of time. Google has confirmed that using Dark mode on OLED screens has been a huge help for battery life. For example, at 50% brightness, the Dark mode interface in the YouTube app saves about 15% screen energy compared to a flat white background.
Suitable for low-light situations In a dark environment, many people find using dark mode easier on the eyes. And it could reduce eye strain.
Disadvantages of Dark mode
Reduced readability In dark mode, your pupil needs to expand to let in more light. When you see light text on a dark screen, its edges seem to bleed into the black background (called the halation effect), and it reduces the ease of reading. Not great for astigmatism If you haveastigmatism in your eyes, this can make it difficult to read light text on dark backgrounds.
